Volunteers are an important part of the Business First program. The Greater Richmond Chamber continues its strong legacy of support for local industry by coordinating the recruitment and activity of more than 90 volunteers for Business First Greater Richmond. These volunteers work with local economic development offices to talk to companies throughout the region.

The information below presents a brief description of the role that the Outreach Volunteer plays in this vital business program.

Job Title: Outreach Volunteer

Purpose: To conduct the business visits for the Business First program, collecting information that will help identify issues and suggest strategies to assist businesses.

Responsibilities:
  • Attend monthly committee meetings to select businesses to visit
  • Send provided letter to businesses informing them of the Business First program
  • Contact the businesses to set up an appointment
  • Conduct conversational style interviews with businesses you selected at the committee meeting
  • Submit completed surveys to your local contact
  • If immediate follow up is needed with a business, call local contact to inform them of the issue
  • Provide feedback on the Business First program and survey questions
  • Participate in training sessions and program update events
Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Enthusiasm and reliability
  • Professionalism in representing your community for the Business First program
  • Strong listening and recording skills
  • Ability to respect and exercise confidentiality
  • Willingness to work within project timeframe
Time Commitment:
One committee meeting held monthly and the time required to schedule and complete assigned visits each month.
