VDBA to Host a Growing Sales Seminar
Wednesday, May 25th, a Growing Sales Seminar will be held for aspiring entrepreneurs and developing businesses at the Richmond Times-Dispatch Hanover Plant on 8460 Times-Dispatch Boulevard at 8 o’clock in the morning.
The Virginia Department of Business Assistance has partnered with Hanover Air Industrial Park Business Association and the Hanover Economic Development Department to bring you a free, half-day program.
Speakers at the breakout sessions who will present and help guide the discussion are: Mary Jo Sisson-Vaughan, Virginia Small Business Financing Authority – Financing Growth; Richard Rosenelli, Procurement Technical Assistance Center for Central Virginia – Federal Contracting; Kimberly Madison, Department of General Services – Optimizing eVA; Shirley McNutt, Department of General Services - Virginia Construction Opportunities; and Will Vehrs, Virginia Department Business Assistance. These professionals will be there offering assistance to help you grow your sales by selling to the state and federal government. Come learn about the buying process, identify sales opportunities and meet the decision makers.
Exhibitors will be on hand for additional resource information. Exhibitors include: Department of Minority Business Enterprise (DMBE), the Greater Richmond Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), Department of Corrections Purchasing, Department of Forestry Purchasing, and J. Sergeant Reynolds CC Purchasing has been invited.
Delegate John Cox and Senator Ryan McDougle will be present at the event; in addition to, Hanover County Board of Supervisors Chair, Debbie Winans. The Lieutenant Governor of Virginia has been invited to attend as well.
Thelma, a small business owner stated, “[The seminar] provided participants with valuable insight into doing business with federal and state agencies.” She went on to say, “The resource fair gave me the opportunity to actually meet the people who represent various government purchasing departments and I was presented information on how [my business] could provide services to these entities. It was a pleasure to be a part of such a well-organized and pro-business event!”

The Virginia Department of Business Assistance (VDBA), created by the Virginia General Assembly in 1996, provides a one-stop-service for technical assistance related to business formation, access to capital, and workforce development. VDBA works with existing businesses as they grow their workforce and mentors entrepreneurs from ideas to launching their first business venture. To accomplish the objectives set forth in Governor McDonnell's Economic Development and Jobs Creation agenda, VDBA has facilitated $1.3 billion in financing for Virginia businesses, provided technical assistance to over 16,250 businesses and will host over 60 Entrepreneurial Workshops statewide this year.
